Overview: Help educate kids about nutrition, yoga, and mindfulness to improve physical, mental, and emotional health. By kids educating kids when we go to underserved areas we can help break through social, economic, and cultural barriers. We provide the education necessary to be able to make smart and healthy choices on their own with out telling them what to do. Also living a stress free lifestyle is very difficult and by teaching yoga and mindfulness we can instill habits in these kids for now and the future.
Every piece of food you eat, will lead to inner peace
Snacks are an important part of a daily diet and often times, snack choices are not healthy. Snacks can “eat up” almost 25% of the daily caloric intake. They are critical for school-age children to maintain concentration and deliver sustainable energy throughout the day and for after school activities. Many students either make poor snack choices or do not even have access to healthy snacks. After instituting healthy snack and meal programs, Miami-Dade County Florida high school students improved their math and science scores, outpacing the state average. Elementary and middle school students in similar programs outperformed their peers in statewide assessments in reading and math.
“Every single young person has to be prepared for a very competitive world economy. They have to be at the top of their game, and for that, they need to be healthy. They need proper nutrition and access to healthy meals at school and at home in order to reach their full potential.” -Tom Vilsack, Secretary, U.S. Department of Agriculture.”
Children need to make good “Nutrition Decisions (ND’s)” and the goal of this nonprofit is to educate school age children in the foundations of nutrition, and to provide ingredients for them to make healthy snacks.
Healthy eating and physical well-being are most beneficial when there is also a sound mind and spirit. The brain-gut system has been well studied and has shown that mindfulness of eating can aid in digestion and absorption of nutrients, while stress can lead to digestive problems. Eating in a calm, distraction-free fashion has been shown to maximize the brain’s ability to control the digestive system. Certain yoga poses have also been linked to improved digestion. Therefore, we also incorporate yoga poses, breathing techniques, and meditation into our lessons to promote a healthy mind and body. In 2012, the Journal of Behavioral Health Services & Research reported that, “middle-school students taking yoga reported positive mood and attitude changes, increased energy and improved ability to relax, as well as improved posture.” Confidence from being mentally and physically strong can transcend into the many challenges they face at home, school, and in life, giving them the resources to overcome these obstacles. These skills will give them the best possible advantage to succeed in school and in life.
Children will be empowered with the art of wellness, nutrition, and mindfulness. Proceeds go towards purchasing our yoga cards, yoga mats, and to print our education materials for them.
Mission: To educate students about nutrition, yoga, and mindfulness.
